Perfectly Flawed Podcast

I have a passion for mental health and sport, it has been a driving factor for my very own podcast “Perfectly Flawed”. I started my podcast at the end of 2020 chatting with various people willing to be open and vulnerable about their journey. Athletes including Zac Stubblety-Cook, Ellie Cole, Cooper Chapman, and Lucy Single have shared their personal journeys, triumphs, and struggles with mental health. Mental health has been a taboo topic for a long time and to some extent still is. I have had many of my own battles with mental health and I know so many others do too. I lost a close friend of mine to suicide in October 2020 and this podcast is in honour of him. I believe it is so important to be able to talk about your feelings and having a safe and comfortable space in which to share it. This podcast is about creating a platform in order to do that. My goal is to help others feel less alone and encourage everyone to be able to have a conversation. I would love for mental health to be spoken about just as openly as physical health.

Reflecting on this experience so far, it has been truly life-changing. The personal development that has taken place has been fundamental to my mindset as a leader. There were moments of anxiety, hurt and the feeling of the pressure of doing this person’s story justice, The emotional toll on me as the host, creator, and leader was something that I never expected. This experience so far has been unique and has enabled me to educate, empower and form real connections and friendships. It has been and will continue to be a life lesson, personal development, and awareness that I had not encountered before. It helped me push beyond the sporting field and my degree...this was real-life leadership.

I am so grateful that I have had so many people in my life feel comfortable enough to trust me and be open enough to share their experiences with me and my audience. I have had such positive feedback and support for the podcast, and I hope that it can continue to grow.

Feedback from guest reviewers, as seen below, has been extremely positive. I hope that it can continue to grow and I am excited about where this journey can take me.

Renee’s podcast, Perfectly Flawed, opens up such an important discussion about mental health in the space of sport. Typically talking about mental health, especially for athletes, has been seen as a weakness, however Renee creates a safe and understanding platform for people in the sporting world to share their mental health struggles so that the community know that they are never alone. This is such a valuable podcast that Renee has created, and I feel privileged to have been able to play a small part in her podcast journey.

Thank you Renee for giving me the opportunity to share my story. I’ve had quite a lot of friends and family listen to it and they love that I was given the opportunity to show that it isn’t weak to speak up. Keep up the great work you're killing it!!
